Saturday Surprise: “SecureDB is on Product Hunt”

Vik Reddy September 17, 2015

Smart phones today are smart because of the smart apps that help us do almost everything that we can imagine. Every app we use gets access to our identity, which we so readily and equally unknowingly share with the app. Data privacy is now a default user-experience, but this hasn’t yet translated in encryption being a default for every web, mobile or IoT app. For us at SecureDB, making encryption a must-have tool in every developer’s repertoire is the ultimate objective - and what best platform we can seek than Product Hunt to propagate our cause.

We were looking forward to get into consideration set of one of the Product Hunt influencers and make the right impression which will drive maximum visibility for our encryption as a service product. Youghourta Benalu (@djug) hunted us on a Saturday morning, and that Saturday morning text message alert from Product Hunt meant that we had a busy weekend and week ahead!

Community has Spoken

Monday morning traffic from Product Hunt can be a deluge for your site, but even the weekend lull of Product Hunt was good enough to set open the traffic gates for our product. Product Hunters flocked on to our site and spent time watching the demo videos and exploring the API documentation to understand how easy encryption is with SecureDB APIs. Soon, we were into triple digits of upvotes on Product Hunt, and saw some impressive numbers owing to that:

  1. Visitor count for website tripled! No previous paid ads campaign or social media drive had gotten us such response
  2. Sign-ups poured in, and are still continuing to trickle in even after a week of listing on Product Hunt. We have got twice the sign-ups over last 10 days than we had in pre-ProductHunt period!

Conclusion:

screenshotA little over a week since we have been hunted on Product Hunt, thought it was time to take a moment during the long weekend to think about SecureDB’s experience on Product Hunt.  110 upvotes later the biggest conclusion that there is a strong want in the community for easy-to-use encryption.  A second lesson that we learned is the simplicity of strong customer service.  For every upvote that we received we made sure that we publicly thanked the individual in which people were engaging with the
“Thank You.” We are excited to continue the conversation from ProductHunt to other digital platforms to spread the message of Encryption as a Priority.

We would like to take a moment and thank influencers in the Product Hunt community that took a moment out of their day to respond to our inquiries.  Once again thank you to Youghourta Benali (@djug) for hunting us.  Last but not least we want thank Ryan Hoover for building such a great resource and Ben Tossel of Product Hunt for being very accessible to answer our questions.
